just looking at the economy and what one has on one's block of land to build something out of - what's on it, where it is, etc etc
Oz lacks for one or two things - mostly water and closer proximity to northern hemisphere markets
but, on almost all other counts ---------- it's miles and miles and miles in front of almost all other countries -----
a one country one continent ------------ geesus ,what a plus that is
politically stable
English speaking
geologically stable
large resource base
close proximity to some of the largest populations on earth
far enough away to have distance as an asset more so than a liability for defense
and what do we do?
We begin with separate colonies - chase that brilliant move up with having different states and then 'federate' them - so they all pull in different self serving directions
then we go away from almost everything one needs to turn a country into a nation - no classic education, and the job training we support - we make the citizens pay for, make it difficult for them to get and then, after making it so we have a basically rather dumb population - we make it compulsory voting
and what is the result of all of this ------------- well, threads on political discussions such as this is a pretty good indicator
short term thinking is another - in a place like Australia - selling off almost all resource companies to foreigners -------------- what a plan - your best hard asset - pffffffffft, gone
we are an amazing crew
and we have now grown to the point where we can't even provide housing for our own people, our food banks are short of food, we have hospital waiting lists as long as our arms, and education is a massive hangover for anyone who can manage to do it
uh huh - one look at hc, facebook and twitter -------- to me - shows why we are where we are
