Yes it is true spreading your money over a number of companies gets you nowhere fast, but it avoids you driving over the cliff. All it takes is one mistake and you are wiped out.
I have a return (alpha) that I want to hit with the minimum of risk. I have made plenty of mistakes along the way, but because I have limited my maximum exposure in any one company I haven't been wiped out either.
If investing was easy we would all be billionaires.
