There is an enormous amount of consolidation going on in the base metal combined with gold space.Most of the major miners are more interested in gold /copper/zinc projects .The takeover of Anglo gold by BHP is yet another example.These takeovers primarily apply to stocks which are beaten down and not those that are overpriced.The intercepts that AMI have at federation are amongst the best I have ever seen in 40 years of investing.There is a shortage of Zinc right now for smelters.I have owned AMI for a while and have dollar cost averaged down in the hopes that it would get decent management (it has) and get its act together (it is).Exciting times for AMI ,it is clearly a takeover target which hopefully wont happen at these cheap levels .In US dollar terms because of the extreme weakness of the Australian dollar makes it highly attractive .
If we are in a major gold/base metal bull market as seems likely then there are quite a few small explorers which are incredibly cheap and could easily be 10-50 baggers .I noticed one the other day (in Quebec) that has 2 million ounces and its enterprise value is 20 million Canadian (ie 10$ an ounce in ground)within 10km of the Eleanore mine (owned by Newmont). With a bit of time ,effort and research there are some incredible deals (but fewer than they were),AMI is of course one of them.
