BTW - there is a deep historical connection between China and Tibet - at the height oof the Tibetan Empire (7th to 9th century)(not so long ago), Western China was part of Tibet. Now the roles are reversed, and since the dictatorship of the Dali Lama system has been overthrown, massive investment and development has come to Tibet, and the welfare of the common folk much improved. Not your kind of democracy, but Tibet is of overwhelming importance for China's security, that its development under China is seen by them as essential.
