I had the same problem and got fed up with that super funds' limitations so I've moved some of my money to a SMSF with ESUPER that allows me to buy any shares. The other fund had a huge downside in that whilst I thought I owned the shares I bought I found I could not participate in recent SPPs at large discounts. Apparently the shares are in the super's name.
