Ok, from report their 100% unsure if there are any numbats in the Wood reserve at all...there have no recorded numbats. Phantom numbat's who is they exist in the woodland would all have clustered on BNR's track to even be considered a realistic species under threat from drilling.
Cockatoos... estimated 340 active nesting trees from conservation groups in a 10 km radius of the proposed drill sites. Most of them no where the proposed track for exploration (see map below). 0 probably affected by the track or drilling program from their locations, at most 3 250m away.
10km radius used in the report is 31,000Ha. proposed track clearing and associated impacts by BNR 2.3 Ha. 0.007%.
Lets be really excessively generous and say the impacts are 10 times larger. That's 0.07% of the 10km for 340 nesting sites or 0.3 active nesting sites if even distributed.... which they aren't clearly clustered in the northern woodland.
2.2 Ha ....Less than a 1/10th of one farm of the near thousand farms surrounding woodland.
BTW Carnaby cocktoo's quiet happily nest in Kings Park, an area surrounded by Perth traffic, and cut through by multiple roads, heavily peopled on weekends so noise or vibration isn't a concern. Dense traffic and buses might be a threat to them.BNR would jump through all the hoops for drilling to avoid any long term impact small areas for survey. If it evolves into a mine, then that is when BNR should/would be forced to create offsets, by buying surrounding lands, or other further a field areas and stopping farmers from clearing. They are the threat not relatively small scale mining..
