Testing by the company so far not turning up cyanide in the slip material. Maybe they were still stacking up ore on the leach pad and hadn't yet introduced the cyanide to start the heap leech. Would be a relief if there is no leak into the Euphrates river. Company keeping details close to its chest as investigations ramp up.
The slip went into a barren area, and not the mine itself. Unfortunately 9 miners are likely lost, condolences to family, friends and colleagues.
If this is only ore material, and no cyanide is involved then I would guess mining to restart in about a years time. Turkey needs the export income. Alternatively if cyanide involved then there should be a full clean up and reapplication for environmental permits, showing they are meeting relevant standards, before mining restarts. The later taking 2-3 years.
Hopefully SSR doesn't make up much of your portfolio. Here's a take on the incident with more camera angles. It's early days. I wouldn't be ready to buy more for at least 6 months when the risks are better understood.
