Thanks for the post Farlap. The history interests me as my father worked as a slave on the railway - a prisoner for 3 1/2 years.
Dad had a strong racial hatred of the Japanese until his old age when he wrote a series of gruesome and graphic short stories based on his experiences of these horrific conditions.
The last story involved a reconciliation between a Japanese businessman whose brother had been a notoriously cruel prison camp commander, and an Australian businessman who had endured his sadism. Dad narrated it live on a radio station.
My father then discovered that his racial hatred had, miraculously, completely disappeared and he never wrote another story in his life.
