The grandfather who died in Borneo was a Doctor who made a decision to stay with his men. Many other officers were transferred to another camp where most survived.
Out of 2,500 Australian, New Zealand, British soldiers only 6 escaped and survived.
Perhaps the worst WW2 tragedy since earlier rescue attempts which could have saved many were aborted.
Our family has never considered themselves to be pawns.
