I think those people who talk about it being choice simply don’t understand, don’t want to understand or are seeped in the male mythology. It’s very easy to victim blame
i made a decision not to shut up about my experience because it is not and was not my shame and because silence and self blame was what kept me locked in.
There was one single point which seemed like I was taken out of a trance - as if I had actually been hypnotised. At that point I realised I had effectively been a scam - his superannuation plan. Had he been less controlling, less of a gambler, more decent and left my money alone he would have had what he wanted. But he couldn’t help himself.
but boy did I learn some lessons, learn to understand myself better and learn to be grateful for everything and everyone I have in my life. I consider myself fortunate and I’m alive and well.
