In short, today's Future Gas Strategy will support QPME.
It is a 'pro-gas' document, but also long:

Minister King's press release has two big supports:
More insight is in the accompanying analytical report: https://www.industry.gov.au/sites/default/files/2024-05/future-gas-strategy-analytical-report.pdf
PS. the six decarbonisation plans are still being drafted, AFAIK.
As a primer, here's how the analytical report breaks down gas use:
We can see QPME is an obvious sibling to QPM's TECH Project.
Get past the MSM noise about gas / environment sell out and encouragingly, here's what the strategy recognises is likely during the clean energy transition in gas' largest use sector, which is perfect for TPS use:
The strategy also recognises the second and third largest use sectors (industry) are harder to transition (technology and cost), than the last residential and commercial which usually gets all the headlines.
My initial reading is the government has focussed on traditional gas resources, rather than the indirect gas production from met coal gas harvesting that is what QPME is about.
Search the FGS for waste like QPME is focussed on and it mainly pings biomass waste.
I made a submission when the Dept were in the Strategy's consultation phase, calling out that harvesting waste gas from met coal operations should be encouraged, and one of the last gas dominoes to fall in the clean energy transition.
It's recognised in the analytical report, with fugitive emissions a potential huge contributor to reductions.:
IMO the Future Gas Strategy is the foundation for the (good) gas is needed theme, and the Safeguard Mechanism, the fed's commitment to the Global Methane Pledge and the forthcoming six industry decarb plans will have the meat on them to provide the financial support for met coal miners to hook up to the NQGP, as well as the state government's Low Emissions Investment Partnership fund and monetise waste gas harvesting projects like QPME's.
Plenty of tailwinds to support QPME. It will be all in the execution to extract maximum value.
Bring's Kipling's If to mind. Here's to DW and team keeping their heads and trusting themselves...
