Economic islands will work against peace. AW1 could obligingly sell USA produced indium etc. within the US with the Canadian metals going to the equally hungry markets close by in the western Pacific.

Domestically Coles and Woolworths appear to provide an example of the inflationary and interest rate costs of oligopolies or artificial economic 'islands'.

Canada may need new East Asian friends when the climate changing Northwest Passage export route comes into dispute with the USA. The latter has yet to ratify the UN International Law of the Sea.

That lack of ratification provokes the question why an Australian helicopter was put at hazard when in service far from home at the behest of an apparently non-law-abiding country.
