Not everyone can or wants to drive a little buzz box with a tiny engine and no room in the cabin. The most popular cars in Australia are SUVs and big utes(hilux etc), so people aren't going to be saving anything at all unless they can somehow transport their families/tools/whatever in some little hatchback.
