The CMRA in relation to strategic lithium projects
I spent sometime over the week looking at the countries mentioned in the article above and what stages there lithium projects are at then made some cruffy notes.
While this raw material is now exclusively produced outside the EU, 27 deposits have been identified in Europe — in Czechia, Finland, France, Ireland, Germany, Portugal, Serbia, Spain and the UK — and around ten of those have a realistic scenario of exploitation, the largest being the Jadar deposit in Serbia, according to Jones.

What challenges does Europe face?
Despite the EU’s CRMA speeding up permits for extraction and refining, mining processes entail infamous challenging red tape for permits and construction. Other issues may delay lithium projects in Europe.
Social acceptance, for example, has been a challenge in Portugal and Serbia. ( SAV and jedah)
A recent scientific study of lithium projects under development in four countries published by Material Proceedings claimed that the Portuguese open pit mine Mina do Barroso project, owned by Savannah Resources, was the only business venture facing strong opposition from the local population.
To note EMH now has full local acceptance with a plan in place to transion the coal jobs to the clean jobs

Finland
Keliber aims to be the first integrated high-purity lithium operation, producing lithium hydroxide chemicals from its own mined ore reserves. Estimated annual production of approximately 15,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate will supply the growing international lithium battery market for at least 16 years.

Spain´s strengths and opportunities
The first thing we can highlight when pointing out Spain as a potential lithium extractor is the importance of its reserves. At European level, the largest lithium reserves are found in the Czech Republic (31%), Serbia (27%) and Ukraine (15%). This is followed by Spain with 13%, and the other countries have very limited reserves (France 4% and Germany 3%, according to Blandine Gourcerol´s study). In other words, in the context of the European Union, we are talking about the second reference territory for the development of an industry of its own.
I can see that San jose in Spain completed there scoping study in November 2023 and nothing on the website showing there turher than that

Cinovec now finalising DFS with local acceptance and bigger than all of the others - major partner and government and bank backed at higher prices - 30tpa 2026 to increase to 60,000tpa
Strategic project status under the CMRA will be a major green light for any and all of the projects selected, lithium and others - based on size on asset size and NPV, stage of development, amount looking to be produced (30,000 - 60,000) and targeted production date 2026 - Cinovec looks a front runner. Local acceptance was a final hurdle while the CRMA is all about speeding everything up - already have strategic status under the Just Transition fund

In the European Union's Critical Raw Materials Act ("CRMA") environment, the coming together of both the Cinovec project joint venture partners and the Czech Government in the decision-making process with regards of the selection of the Prunéřov site provide a very strong foundation for our upcoming application for Strategic Project status under the CRMA."
