hard for most of us to comprehend the "living" conditions at back of this -
quote [In short: Police statistics show 1,702 family and domestic violence (FDV) offences in Western Australia's Kimberley region between January and March 2024.
The region has the highest rates of FDV offences across the state, with family violence rates up almost 50 per cent in five years.]
over 2,000 offences this year and that only counts complaints where victims have been able to phone cops
This is not all remote places like Wadeye -
this includes Broome and Derby
20 years ago I made a few visits to a family member working at a remote community out east of Kal near the transline that had no resident cop - so I am thinking back to what I saw and was told about there but not getting close to what the ABC are reporting above.
What I was told about was the "local drug supply gang" ran the village.
If you transgressed their rules then they would let you know -
it might start by damage to your car or to the outside of where you lived -
and if you were a slow learner the damage would move inside.
the next step could mean your specific private property was damaged/destroyed -
then after that - you better be a fast runner -
Australia - your living in it
