An ardent atheist such as yourself could hardly deny that the bible describes such events as actually happening literally,so how can I, a believer. A couple of points. I don't deny all BIblical descriptions as literal, but do deny some of them as literal for very good reasons; some of the figurative ones have great spiritual value. Your religious beliefs are your own choice which you don't have to justify to me.
