I feel I can comment, as I have PLS and a Tesla M3LR.
I rarely get to drive the EV now, as my wife loves driving it. My “big” mistake was letting her drive it in the first place.
On lithium batteries, I have owned lithium batteries for ever (since the days of remote control cars - we owned several Traxxas Rustlers) and never had a fire. % wise, there are far more ICE fires than lithium fires. The lithium fires may be harder for the firies to extinguish at the moment but I am sure they will work out a way.
Our son drove the car for the first time recently and he was “super” impressed.
I have done in excess of 25,000km and have yet to require anything from Tesla. With the Audi I would have spent $3,000, not to mention the updated maps would have cost me $350 (to date and for free, I get an over the air update on the Tesla every couple of weeks). A friend of mine went to his S one morning after 7.5yrs (0.5yr the battery would be out of warranty), nothing. Tesla said it needed a new battery. It cost him zilch.
