Hi@Rothal2022
Following your prompt, with a view to possibly attempting to contact Chrisjan van Wyk's to see if he would be rprepared to shed any light on why he departed in light of your comments about his "excellent track record on getting projects planned and running" and instead fell into the rabbit hole of looking at said track record.
Do you happen to know any more than what is on his Linked In bio (an thanks for the prompt by the way?
The reason I ask is that in his Linked In bio his self appraisal states
"A seasoned Project Execution Specialist with > 28 years experience in the mining and metals industries. I have worked on mega complex execution projects from concept phase, pre-feasibility and feasibility, through to implementation, commissioning and close out. I own a solid track record, as a Project Specialist, who can get the job done safety, on time and within budget, coupled with the ability to successfully apply contractual requirements, and increase shareholder value."
He lists his achievements since 2008 as follows:
- A Project Director, Aug 2018 - Aug 2022: Completed the project within budget and schedule and to the required specification coupled with an excellent safety record, during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020/202 and led the owner’s team and reported directly to CEO. Responsible for the management of the EPCM contractor and interfaced with the mining development team.
This claim would not even get you past the first hurdle if applying for a PD role. Where is the evidence, what contribution did he make. The claimed achievement is nothing more than copy and paste from the job description.
- Prior to that Senior Project Manager Feb 2015 - Dec2017 – no achievements listed, only that the project was a bankablefeasibility study for the establishment of a coal washing plant where he reportedinto the project steering committee.
- Prior to that a Senior ProjectManager and Area Manager Oct 2008 - Jan 2015 where his achievements are listed as “Projects were successfully delivered within budget and ahead of schedule, with an excellent safety record.”
Likewise, the above two roles are very far from compelling evidence of a person with a track record of acheivement let alone high performance.
Could it be that EGR actually let him go?
Could it be that EGR employed a person who failed to live up to his own hype?
Is this evidenced in the apparent lack of speed in development?
