I suspect that headline is somewhat over-egged. It will take longer for the new battery to make it into the cars we can buy here. Also range claims as we know are based on ideal conditions, you rarely achieve it IRL. But it's still impressive, the capacity is rising, the price curve is going down, and the floor is probably years away. This year's hype is next year's reality.

I read the above article about the same time I was looking at the predictions of Tony Seba, that EV prices will keep falling, and by 2030 there will be virtually no ICE cars coming off the production line because they simply won't be able to compete on price, reliability and other desirable features.

That is how it looks seen through the lens of technology and manufacturing. It's not politics and ideology, it's not environment. Batteries are doing the same thing that CPU chipmakers did in the 2000s. We are at the point now where ICE cars are like film cameras, and EVs are digital cameras... or ICE cars are Nokia bricks and EVs are versatile smartphones... according to Seba, anyway. He seems to know what he's talking about. 2030 is six yeas away, that's an eternity when technology is on the march like this.
