The fire issue could end up being a plus for lithium because of evidence from multiple sources indicating that EVs are LESS susceptible to fire than ICE cars. Petrol and diesel are, after all, highly combustible. They have to be, it is a COMBUSTION engine. The motortrend article linked below quotes one set of stats showing ICE fires are 29 times more likely than EV fires.
Here are four different articles quoting insurance companies, academics, firefighters, motoring groups and publications, all of them agreeing that EV fires are not a problem compared to ICE fires. None of these are specifically pro-EV or environmentalist sites. Obviously there will be ongoing scrutiny of fire safety, but as a generalised anti-EV argument, it is pretty much totally debunked.
