    g'day zzzzz...... you exaggerate enormously that million is supposed to be over 3 years.

    now that happened with universities is the Abbott Govt didn't want to pay unis a brass razoo so made them take in around 50-100,000 international students per yr. the unis are expected to sell their education o/s in order to earn enough to partially fund domestic students and provide services. int. students make a large proportion of the migrant intake.

    others were skilled workers that weren't able to be hire from domestic workers. this was mostly due to covid related restrictions on immigration. accumulated applications in dept immigration were around 150,000. so catch up was needed.

    yes we have a rental crisis. all developed over many years and exacerbated by covid lockdowns when many shared houses broke down and younger people moved back in with parents or took their own rental leases. this problem is reported as easing slowly now.

    its not at all simple though zzzzzz.
