The best teachers recognize they are not in the profession for the money. They could earn a lot more in other jobs, and some do, but they certainly can have a comfortable life and retirement.
Conversely, the ones who are constantly griping about their pay and conditions and continually promoting themselves as precious to society are those who are being paid more than they are worth. Everyone would be better off if they left the profession.
