The problem is that the change of the percentage of "western" types and the increase of "eastern" types has led to a change in character. We are no longer a society with the same values that were around 50 to 70 years ago.
70 years ago I lived in a house where the doors were never locked. We actually didn't even have a key to the back or front door. You left your keys in your car. You left money on the front doorstep for the milkman. Kids misbehaving could expect a kick up the ar#e from the local cop, if not from their parents. You got the cane for misbehaving at school. Kids walked or rode a bike to school. You could own a gun and carry the gun and a sheath knife or pocketknife. You didn't keep your gun locked away and it was a valid reason to use it to protect yourself or your property. A doctor made house calls. Anzac Day was more than just a holiday. You never felt unsafe out late and alone on a dark night.
That's just a few. The change has not been beneficial. Too many newcomers who came here for "a better life", brought with them the old ways that they were escaping from. Our immigrants now are mainly "refugees" and not "adventurers". My grandfather came out from England in the late 1800s and started a chain of change stations for Cobb and Co coaches and his brother started breeding horses for Cobb and Co and the Army.
