The use of the proxy argument is simply a word like “ antisemitic” being bandied around by some Jews on HC.
In the past Israel has also used proxies to massacre Palestinians in Lebanon etc If my recollection is correct they engaged Lebanese Christian as their proxy, led by Israeli secret service Shin Bat(?)
So all this waffle about the use of proxies has never been an issue between Iran and Israel…it just became a routine event between between these 2 nations.
Iran considered that the attack on its embassy as Israel overstepping the mark, and felt justified in attacking Israel, probably as a reprisal for political consumption for the Iranian people.
Hopefully it doesn’t escalate any further as nations will loss the luxury of sitting on the fence, being forced to back a nation.
