The private schools save government huge costs in capital works, salaries, maintenance. our school system would be much poorer for government schools if not for parents paying for catholic and private schools who provide for the desires of the parents. Even with equal payment for all schools parent contributions would lead to elite government schools in more wealthy areas. look at how elite selective government schools exist for academic, sporting, dance and arts in our existing schools. They grab all the best staff and leave the beginners to learn their skills in poorer and rural, remote government schools even within the government system. We need private schools to enable government schools to survive.
