This is the Runit Dome.in the Enewetak Atoll. Mid-70's, the US decided to clean-up the site of 43 bomb tests between 1948 and 1958. They dug up the land, tossed it into one of the bomb craters, and covered the crater with concrete.

In 2015, Columbia University visited the Dome and took some measurements
The gamma dose rate on top is 0.18 mSv/y, the base 0.43 mSv/y and the mean 0.13 mSv/y.
Columbia's gamma dose rates for New York's Central Park range from 0.13 to 2.13 mSv/y with a mean of 1.00 mSv/y.
Background dose rates before the dome was built in 1977 (20 years after the last bomb) were about 1 mSv/y.

The Dome EIS study said not building it would result in a 3 in one thousand increase in cancer incidence for someone living in the area for 30 years.
Dome construction went ahead. There were 63 lost time accidents and 6 men lost their lives in construction mishaps.

Our fear of low dose radiation is unhinged, detrimental to progress and the opportunity cost to humanity has been incalculable.

Funnily enough, its much the same situation for anthropogenic climate change and pandemic potential; seemingly unquestionable scientific priesthoods dictating enormous social restriction with secreted computer modelling and an illusion of safety. And humanity so much more worse off for it.
