The FDA puts impossibly high safety requirements on weight loss drugs that make it a nightmare to develop new treatments. Weight loss drugs have to have no side effects in any patients at any time. While a theoretical target (yes it is on my list), until the FDA starts taking obesity seriously and weighing the risk/reward balance, it is not a development path any rational biotech should pursue.
