That is what it looks like during construction, later on it is all back filled and the only bit poking out is the round tower base in the middle with a small apron around it. I have been to many wind farms, in fertile soil areas animals graze right up to the base, in less fertile soils like the Macintyre windfarm near Warwick on traprock country the flattened area around the tower actually grows more vegetation because the water soaks in instead of running off.
