Out of curiosity have you ever read Thomas A. Kempis "Imitation of Christ" written in the 1500's or on the life of Saints and their endurance during hardship especially during prosecution and sickness
Have you read up on the likes of St Therese of Lisieux, "My Vocation is love"
The book of Job is also a great starter, I looked up to his principle, when I was sick, the more I was down the more I trusted in God, and I still apply that principle to this day.
