Putin's government pays for it's weapons. With money. Some of which comes from gas/oil sales into EU. Directly or indirectly. So EU tax payers sponsor the Russian war machine in a sense. But at least they are getting something in return. Fuel and electricity.
Zelensky rattles his bottomless tin-cup expecting US and EU taxpayers to pay for his war that is obviously failing to achieve any of the stated objectives, and only serves to deteriorate the situation in Ukraine even further. US and EU taxpayers get nothing in return from Ukraine.
