The ‘Way of Life’ As an immigrant of nearly two decades, somebody who has lived in multiple countries and extensively travelled, I think it’s fair to say Aus has a very definitive ‘Way of Life’. Its not unusual not to recognise your own way of life when you just get on with stuff and take everything for granted in that life. I find Aussies very likeable and generally good natured. That comes with climate a lot of the time and good living conditions, which are a standard, generally, that’s hard to replicate anywhere. They are fiercely proud of their country which is understandable. There is also a genuine pride in their history and how the country has developed. And to be fair, in a couple of hundred years, the result is amazing. The lifestyle is one of generally work hard to play hard. And why not? What lets it down is the same as many 1st world countries. They follow the lead of others (US mainly) across the board and are easily bullied politically. For that they are generally poor in form. But that’s not unusual. For me the Way of Life is very easy going and I enjoy that. The country is massive and not overcrowded. The People generally make it great though. Will I leave? Doubtful. It’s a country with everything. Politics is its weakness and it has so much opportunity in in-ground wealth to do its own thing. It’s strange but Albanese said something in respects of us competing yesterday. And we can, by doing our thing. We should view the in-ground wealth as our ‘Security’ and tax it accordingly. Go the way of Norway. There is still time for that. But it needs to happen now. Immigration being a major issue, still needs to happen, but again, politicians need to target that properly. Against a major strategies and plans across multiple sectors. Again, driven by our in-ground wealth. But there is space and we need to open up wider opportunities across different areas of the country. Mainly the North across the three states/territory.

"ok - if we are sitting in a car --------- and we have a gps and we are about to move off in the car" what do we need to move? direction wise what are the consequences if we just move off and drive? " But we aren't "sitting in a car", and when I am sitting in a car the direction I go can change from one day to the next. Car analogies are usually poor. Australia 's direction was determined initially by its forefathers. A safe, cohesive society was envisioned and largely materialised. This allowed each individual to chart their own particular "direction and meaning" in life, something that is only achievable, in my opinion, via a homogeneous society. The more homogeneous a society the less need there is to articulate what it means. It is innate in such cases. As we become less homogeneous so the somewhat frustrating differences between cultures grow (fanned as they are by politicians and others), and the future direction a nation takes becomes impossible to envision. You doubt multiculturalism is the issue, but I think the evidence is strong that it is a major factor in every western nation's decline. A person doesn't have to hate someone to not want that someone's culture in their nation, much like that person shouldn't have to be tolerant when that foreign culture arrives. Fix that curse, and "way of life" doesn't need words for it to exist.

I agree that we don’t necessarily need to know a single direction and direction may change according to circumstances. In almost every society different people are at different stages of development with different genetics, personality and goals. Society morphs and changes and people do as well. Australia is impacted by the rest of the world in so many ways and while it would ideally be able to shape its own future it is small fry and thus not independent. in my view if someone thinks it important to somehow chart a future, decide a direction and follow some plan they are bound to be disappointed unless they also accept that deviation may be necessary Those who dance and adapt are more likely to survive a modern world though our political processes make it hard ( but that is also the price of a democracy) life is a series of adaptations to circumstances. To think otherwise suggests an unhealthy need for control
