Clearly it was the worst attempt ever to serve papers. The process server stated,
“She did not acknowledge me and kept walking inside the venue, and she had no expression on her face.”
So perhaps she was completely unaware? Do you only ever get one chance to serve? Seems they have plenty of opportunity but possibly left it to late. Her lawyer has never heard about any request, so there's that.
Denied unfairly, nope. Subpoena's get denied all the time. Get better lawyers.
