The imported LNG will likely be from Australia. See it as a virtual pipeline.
You cannot produce gas out of thin air and the Bass Strait is now a very mature basin, the reality is theres not much left down there and it was primarily oilfields with associated gas to begin with.
It is well known that the main contributor to the gas shortage on the east coast is that the Gladstone LNG plants are only sourcing 60-70% of their own feed gas with the rest coming from other suppliers. This has linked the international and domestic gas prices.
