Mount Burgess Mining has achieved an impressive average mineralization of
65.5% per drillhole. Let’s break down the details:
- Kalahari Sand Cover: On average, each drillhole has a Kalahari sand cover of 6.12 meters (approximately 14.3% of the hole).
- Barren or Low-Cut Quartz Wacke: This layer above any mineralization amounts to 7.18 meters (about 16.8% of each hole).
- Depth to Start of Mineralization: The depth to the start of mineralization averages 13.3 meters per hole.
- Non-Mineralized Intersections: Within the mineralized domains, non-mineralized intersections account for an average of 1.44 meters per hole (approximately 3.4% of each drillhole).
- Mineralization Zone: The remaining portion, approximately 28 meters per hole (or 65.5% of each hole), contains zinc, lead, silver, vanadium oxide, germanium, and gallium mineralization above low-cut grades.
- Base of Mineralization: The average base of mineralization is at a depth of 42.47 meters per hole.
The low-cut grades used for this calculation are as follows:
- Zinc and Lead: 1%
- Silver: 10 grams per tonne (g/t)
- Vanadium Oxide: 300 parts per million (ppm)
- Germanium: 3 g/t
- Gallium: 10 g/t
Notably, the Kalahari sand cover is amenable to bulldozing or scraping, with only a few holes requiring light blasting where calcrete is present. Additionally, the oxidized and weathered nature of barren quartz wacke and other mineralized domains allows for cost-saving measures such as ripping and limited drilling and light blasting.
Mount Burgess Mining’s focus on efficient extraction methods should contribute to significant cost savings compared to drilling and blasting sulphide deposits1.
