Why I voted NO

I voted no to the question "Should the law be changed to allow same sex couples to marry?"

I have absolute respect and positive sentiment towards same sex couples. The problem I have is this very simplistic question is just not enough information for me. Same sex couples cannot have their own biological children.
    They. Just. Can't.

This is a pretty dramatic difference between them and hetero couples. The overriding reason I have voted no is because I don't have enough information about how these "changed laws" will affect children, both during the marriage and after any subsequent dissolution of those marriages.

How about the biological parents of children of same sex marriages?
I don't even know how they are treated under the law at the moment!?
What about the children? What about the children of same sex defacto relationships?

Giving me a one line question in the mail is not going to cut it. I really want to help same sex couples find a solution they are happy with, but I need more info, and I need to know how if affects children that will inevitably be involved.
